Dr Ramya Raman is a specialist GP, practice owner, medical educator, College leader and health advocate who is nominating for the 2026 RACGP Presidential election.

She brings broad experience across Australian general practice, including clinical care, practice ownership, medical education, governance, advocacy and work with GPs across city, regional, rural and remote communities.

Dr Ramya Raman has a practical track record of listening to GPs, bringing people together and turning concerns into action.

She has carried the concerns of GPs from across Australia including rural and remote WA, far north Queensland, Central West NSW, Riverina NSW, rural SA, ACT, regional Victoria and Tasmania into the rooms where decisions are made.

In WA, she brought together UWA, Notre Dame and Curtin University representatives along with GPs, medical students, RACGP WA members, university leaders and government stakeholders to strengthen general practice in medical schools, improve GP placements, support GP supervisors and reduce the burden on teaching practices.

Her advocacy has helped secure favourable payroll tax confirmation for contractor-GP models in WA, mobilise GPs on ADHD care reform, protect GPs in firearms reform, and stand firm against unsafe pharmacy prescribing.

She has also helped support funding for general practice across WA, including respiratory clinics, vaccination delivery and practice grants, with more than $1 million directed to WA practices in 2026 alone.

Dr Ramya Raman is standing for RACGP President because general practice is at a critical point, and the College needs leadership that understands the realities of the profession from the ground up.

As a specialist GP, practice owner, educator and advocate, Ramya understands what it means to deliver care while navigating thin margins, rising costs, workforce shortages and increasing administrative pressure. She knows that practice viability is not an abstract policy issue. It affects whether clinics can keep their doors open, whether GPs can continue to provide comprehensive care, and whether patients can access the continuity they need.

General practice is facing outdated funding, scope-of-practice expansion, digital disruption and major reforms that too often happen without enough GP leadership at the centre.

Ramya is standing to protect what is essential, build what the profession needs next, and focus the RACGP’s influence where it can make the greatest difference for GPs, practice teams and the communities they serve.

Dr Ramya Raman has direct leadership experience across the RACGP, medical education, training, community health and general practice ownership.

As a RACGP Board Director and former Vice President, she has experience in national governance, strategy, member representation and organisational decision-making.

As a former WA Faculty Chair, current practice owner and board director, past senior medical educator, she understands both the responsibilities of leadership and the real-world consequences of decisions made for GPs, practices, registrars, supervisors and patients.

Dr Ramya Raman brings governance experience across College, training, education, health service and practice settings.

Her governance experience includes service as a RACGP Board Director, Joint Colleges Training Services Director, Board Director at Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Services, and leadership within general practice education.

She also holds the GAICD, reflecting formal governance training through the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

This combination gives her a practical understanding of board responsibility, strategic decision-making, risk, accountability and the need to keep member value at the centre of College leadership.
