Ramya's vision for General Practice

The vision behind my candidacy reflects the kind of leadership I believe the RACGP needs: clear in purpose, grounded in the realities of general practice, and focused on the future of our profession.

My Priorities are based on this vision and outlines five key areas of focus for action.

Protect. Build. Focus.

General practice must be clear about what it protects, ambitious about what it builds, and disciplined about where it focuses its influence.

Every GP is feeling the future of our profession being reshaped: practice owners, independent and employed clinicians, GPs in training, supervisors, international medical graduates, rural doctors and senior clinicians.

Funding reform, workforce pressure, digital health, artificial intelligence, pharmacy prescribing expansion, patient access and rising complexity are changing how we practice, train, teach and lead.

The question is simple: will that future be shaped by GPs, or shaped around us?

With the right stewardship, the RACGP can protect the foundations of general practice and specialist general practitioners, build the future that our profession needs, and focus our influence where it can make the greatest difference.

That is my vision for the College, and for our profession.

I bring experience from across general practice: the consulting room, practice ownership, medical education, training and supervision and College governance.

As RACGP Vice President, Board Director and Chair of the RACGP WA Faculty, and through my roles in training, medical education, clinical practice and practice ownership, I have seen what GPs want from our College: credible advocacy, strong standards, better support and disciplined use of member resources.

I now want to bring that experience together as RACGP President: to represent GPs across our profession, strengthen our practices and ensure the future of general practice is shaped by us. Change should not mean general practice is pushed to the margins. It should mean strengthening the part of the health system that knows patients over time, manages uncertainty, coordinates complexity and keeps care connected.

The foundations we protect are clear: continuity of care, clinical autonomy, professional standards, patient safety and the trusted relationship between a patient and their GP. The future we build must be practical and ambitious: sustainable practices, stronger rural and remote care, a respected workforce, better support for supervisors, GPs in training and international medical graduates, and funding reform that properly values our expertise.

Our influence must be focused where it can do the most good: on the reforms that shape the future of our profession, the viability of our practices and the care our patients receive.

This is not a time for general practice to stand still.

It is a time to lead with clarity, confidence and purpose. With your support, we can protect our profession and strengthen our future.
