I have been fortunate to work closely with her in my role as AMA WA CEO, collaborating on strategic issues across the sector. As WA Faculty Chair of RACGP, she has been the most professional partner and advocate I could ask for. What I appreciate most is that she works hard, never cuts corners, and holds herself to the highest standard of integrity.

General Practice faces significant challenges, and we have spent considerable time working together to address these strategically at multiple levels. Ramya has dedicated substantial time to stakeholders and members, particularly as the battleground for control of General Practice has expanded in recent years from the Federal Government to include state governments. I have seen firsthand the time commitment leadership demands — government meetings during the day, often at the expense of her own private practice, and member meetings after hours.

One occasion stands out as defining. In the trial of pharmacist-initiated prescribing of antibiotics for UTIs, WA achieved a result no other state matched by working together with the WA Government to ensure the best possible clinical guidelines were in place. But when other clinical conditions were introduced and the working group expanded, genuine consultation broke down. Ramya was firm in advocating for proper engagement, and when it failed to materialise, she took the difficult step of leading RACGP WA to withdraw from the department-led pharmacy working group. It is a decision that reinforced, rather than undermined, the trust GPs place in RACGP's advocacy.

I strongly support Ramya's nomination for RACGP President and believe she is the right leader for the profession in the next term.

It provided an invaluable opportunity for local GPs, supervisors, registrars and healthcare leaders to engage directly with College leadership and share their experiences of practising medicine in a remote region. It allowed the realities of workforce shortages, service delivery challenges and the unique rewards of rural practice to be seen firsthand. Ramya recognised the importance of ensuring that these perspectives were heard and understood at the highest levels of the College, and she actively championed the visit
and the engagement that followed.

To me, this reflects Ramya's leadership style. She does not simply speak about supporting members; she takes practical steps to build connections, foster understanding and ensure that all members, regardless of geography, feel represented and valued. She understands that strong leadership requires listening, visibility and genuine engagement with the profession's diverse communities.Her ability to bring people together is one of her defining strengths. In her role as Vice President, she has brought a combination of governance rigour and genuine warmth to each discussion and has increased the visibility and impact of the RACGP. Ramya’s qualifications to take on the President role are evident.  She has served several years as Chair of the WA Faculty and WA representative on the Board, the last two years as the Vice President of the RACGP.  She is very familiar with the workings of the College and the College leadership.

From a WA perspective she has been an exceptional leader of the WA Faculty.  Under her leadership, the College has greatly increased its engagement with key stakeholders in WA and increased presence in the media.  She has worked hard with management to foster an effective Council,  a well-supported program of educational activities and member events.  She is an effective spokesperson in the media.

She has been very active in the media on key WA issues – ADHD prescribing,  Medicals for gun licensing,  pharmacy prescribing to name a few.

I have the privilege of working with her in The Garden Medical Clinic where she is one of the two partners.  ThereI have seen her commitment to her patients and to the profession.  She is a practicing GP,  a GP supervisor and a part-time academic teacher,  so understands both the practicalities of grass roots practice and the academic basis of our discipline.

She has enthusiasm and energy to put in the hard work that goes with the position of President and the skills to do the job well.  I believe she would make an outstanding President of our college, and am happy to support her candidacy

It is my privilege to write these brief comments.

I first met Dr Ramya Raman 4 years ago when she led a College delegation to rural areas offering support and two way information. Later I served on Council and very impressed by Ramya’s energy and ability to negotiate with senior politicians and the media.

After retiring from rural practice, I have worked in Ramya’s new clinic. Many patients have followed her and have greatly appreciated her dedication and quality care. Medical students and GP registrars benefit from her clear dedication, leadership and advocacy in promoting General Practice as a clear professional choice.

Ramya has led the WA Faculty superbly  in recent years and would ably fulfil the role of national president of the College. She has the strong support of her local colleagues.

Ramya would excel at representing the College as President.

She now has extensive experience relevant to the role following her term as Vice President. During that time she also gave strong leadership to the WA Faculty as Chair.

In both roles, she liaised with the relevant health leaders and politicians, placing the RACGP’s priorities firmly in their view.  She was part of a wide range of consultative groups and committees. Importantly, she regularly accessed input from GPs and practices, and gave feedback via social media.

I also participated with Ramya in the GP Led Teams policy group. This group of GPs and its secretariat crafted suggested directions for College policy and advocacy. Ramya, with her links and information from GPs, was an excellent resource for the discussions. These papers were either for Board approval, or we were commenting on documents for external agencies. It is at times a difficult decision on whether a neutral or negative attitude is best in evolving constructs such craft groups looking at maximising their scope of practice. Ramya has navigated this area well within WA. And of course, this will remain a hot topic throughout the next presidency.

As Ramya has demonstrated, she is able to carry forward the policies, along with the linked advocacy required, that GPs need. She will be able to achieve this with her calm and firm attitude.  As will be required for the College to remain as a voice in primary care in Australia.
