Dr Ramya Raman announces intention to nominate for RACGP President

Today, I am humbled to announce my intention to stand for the upcoming RACGP Presidential election. General practice has shaped who I am as a doctor, a leader and a person.

I understand the pressures facing our profession because I live them every day: as a specialist GP, practice owner, educator and advocate. I know what it means to deliver increasingly complex care, support teams, manage ever-rising practice costs and work within a health system that does not always recognise the true value of general practice.

My priorities have been shaped from the ground up, through years of listening to GPs, practice owners, supervisors, doctors in training and international medical graduates about what they want more of from their College, what is no longer working, and where stronger leadership is needed.

I am standing because I believe we need leadership with both experience and conviction.

Leadership that will stand firm when patient safety, continuity of care and the future of our profession are at stake. Leadership that will back every GP, GPs in training, New Fellows, rural doctors, international medical graduates and every member working to serve their community.

I have spent a good part of my career advocating for general practice, building partnerships and turning concerns into action. Now, I am ready to take that further.

I am standing to protect what is essential, build what our profession needs next and ensure the voice of general practice is impossible to ignore.
